About Us

Blaenllain Stud is run by sisters Mandy & Tina and was started by Brian & the late Peta Jones; who mainly provided riding ponies for Mandy to ride & compete.

Mandy did both WHP and SJ, being fortunate enough to have the support of the family and some very talented home produced horses & ponies. She competed up to & including International level as an Individual and as part of Teams representing Wales  in both WHP & SJ.

Over the years Mandy has had success with, to name a few, the following wonderful horses & ponies:
“STAR SCHOLAR”, 15hh WHP, “STAR GLEAM” lead rein, 1st ridden, Cradle & Nursery Stakes, “TOWY VALLEY ROOSTER” & “TOWY VALLEY HORACE” 13hh WHP, BLAENLLAIN RED BERRY 14.2hh BSJA, BLAENLLAIN HUCKLE BERRY, Horse Trials & BSJA

Generally Blaenllain horses were all unbroken & with attitude when Peta spotted ‘that something special’in them and through a lot of hard work and commitment from everyone involved Mandy was able to successfully compete at both National & International Level.

High points were competing & getting very well placed on home produced bargains’ at Horse of the Year show @ Wembley, Home International in Mill Lodge in Show jumping, International WHP in Germany & Home International WHP in Nottingham.

While Peta was busy at the shows getting horses ready for the ring, Brian was busy in the Working Hunter Pony ring building the course; continuing even when Mandy wasn’t competing at the shows.

Mandy went on to take her “BHS Level 3 Coach in Complete Horsemanship, BHS Ride Safe trainer and Assessor, Poncy Club Accredited Coach and assessor  and is working her way through the UKCC Level 3 Coaching. ” as well as other equine qualifications required to teach from beginner up to competition riders in a variety of disciplines. Mandy is now concentrating on the children and their ponies, as well as producing stock from in hand to eventing.

On leaving school sister “Tina” worked for some top class pony studs & ridden showing yards both in Wales & Ireland and learnt the art of plaiting and producing horses for the show ring, before joining the Armed Services.

A major change in family circumstances led Tina to leave the forces and come home. Together with Mandy & her partner Wayne a move was made to the now Home of Blaenllain Stud, 4 miles from the coast & surrounded by beautiful views.

Tina enjoys in-hand showing & social rides and Mandy competing under saddle & show jumping.
Looking long term the sisters decided to combine their interests & skills in order to breed their ideal Horse.

The girls started off with a half Part Bred, Tina was able to show her in-hand while Mandy competed her under saddle and show jumping. Due to the Foot & mouth, she was put in foal to a Arab and bred the girls their “Ideal horse”, Stallion “BLAENLLAIN DOODLEBA”.

Bart, as he is fondly known, is registered Welsh Part Bred and Part Bred Arab, all his stock is also eligible for registration. He is now used at Blaenllain stud on their own mares and public.

The sisters have been lucky enough to have continued support from Grandmother ‘Bobbie’ who sadly passed away in 2016,  Dad ‘Brian’,  family friend ‘Vernon’, and Mandy’s long suffering  partner Wayne, not forgetting some great friends.
